Fall 2008

Whitetail Bucks
We made some drives today to see some deer that have not been seen all summer. We have several good 8 and 10 pointers. Based on what we actually saw during the drive, they will be priced from $2500 to $3500 (depending on size). There is a smaller buck (6 or 8 pointer) that has a limp. I want to remove him from the herd. This buck is priced at $950. I spotted a bruiser Whitetail buck with a big body. He already has a swelled neck but he had a 4 point rack on one side and a big forked brow tine on the other, with a point or two at the base. He is priced at $950 There were also a couple of smaller 8 pointers which are priced at $1800 each.

Fallow Bucks
We have several bucks that are old enough that the racks are going down hill. Usually the buck is large bodied and the rack is very heavy, but not as many points or not as tall or wide as I would like to see. We shot a few of these deer today to get steaks and breakfast sausage for the clients. There are a few left – these make nice trophies, just not the monsters we usually harvest. We have had a very tough time finding all the deer to determine value after the summer growth. I am not sure how many there will be. At the present time I will list the ones that I could glass and decide to reduce prices to reflect antler quality and remove these racks this fall.

Smaller Spotted Fallow Buck ($1250) – Not very tall. I think he had a lot of points but he didn't give me a very good look.

White Spot Cross Fallow Buck ($1900) – Has a very high rack, heavy, 3 or 4 palms and big body.

White Fallow Buck ($2900) – This is a nice buck. About 4" palms, pretty heavy mass and I think there was 4 or 5 points coming off each palm, plus the brow and trey tines.

I will repeat, we have not seen all the deer so watch this page for updates. I have decided this year with the high cost of keeping and maintaining a healthy deer herd, any buck that is questionable on producing a monster rack – I want him out of the herd now. The big problem is the "cull" bucks are several years old and have been eluding hunters their entire life. That's why they're still here! They are very good at eluding hunters by now! So even though this is a more economical hunt, it will most likely be a much tougher hunt. For example, yesterday we went out to harvest several bucks for our lodges meat and sausage supply for this year. We were shooting the least desirable bucks from a trophy hunters point of view. There was one buck that was seen once by me and once by Craig. We saw that deer about 60 seconds apart. We got a good look, but no shot and we covered and that enclosure multiple times for many hours. That buck was never seen again. I also found another white buck I didn't know even existed. He was spotted once and never again. I did not see many spotted bucks that Sherri and I saw about 2 weeks ago when she was making finesse drives to me. So be prepared, this is not a guaranteed hunt. It's not an easy hunt and I am still amazed after 25 years of raising deer that with the experienced guides, ATV's and radios that these deer, the very smartest, (only the smartest are still here), can hide and move around among us. They will only be seen once a day and never again that day. We finally gave up at dusk yesterday, the deer won again! People who claim this is shooting fish in a barrel have never hunted at White Oak. As I have see again yesterday, unless you see it with your own eyes, you just don't believe it.

Corsicans
We have a lot of sheep on the property now. Many nice Corsican Rams in the $750 and up. We want to harvest about a dozen extra befor winter. I will offer these Rams (while they last) for $750 and up. If you have been considering a Ram hunt, this fall is a great time to do it. Our fall season runs from Oct. 3 to Nov. 8th. If you have questions, give us a call.

Angora Goats
We have some nice goats. We will offer the same deal as the Corsican Rams above - $750 and up!

Elk
Just shot a bull that scored over 350 and we have two more about the same size. One 6x8, and one 7x7. We are holding prices down to the same prices as last year ($6500). Bulls are VERY large, only 2 unspoken for at this time. Don't drag your feet on this one!

Also, we have one 6x6 Elk, super heavy, narrow spread, very high rack, old bull, very big - $5900.
